UPDATE: The Daily Pilot wrote up a great story on the event. Here's the link to the story. Thanks to a generous donation from the Andrei Olenicoff Memorial Foundation, the Makapo Canoe Club will be blessing our new canoes on August 22, 2008 at 2PM. Uncle Tubby of Newport Outrigger Canoe Club will help us properly bless the newest members of our family. Please join us that afternoon to meet our new canoes and enjoy the afternoon of food and paddling!

For the past 6 weeks, over 20 teenagers from the Braille Institute Anaheim with little or no vision were given the opportunity to paddle on a weekly basis. The program which was run in collaboration with the Newport Aquatic Center, involved not only paddling but strength training in the weight room and cardiovascular training on rowing machines.

On Sunday, July 20, the Makapo Canoe Club is having a fundraiser lunch at the Beach Pit BBQ in Costa Mesa. The restaurant will be donating a portion of the sales from anyone presenting a flyer. Flyer's can be obtained from any paddler. We'll be there at around 12:30PM, right after our long 3 hour practice! Beach Pit BBQ 1676 Tustin Ave Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 645-7427
